HIGH POINT —Even shorthanded, the High Point Christian boys stuck with Greensboro Day on Monday evening. But the Bengals made a couple key plays in the final minutes to edge the Cougars 59-58 in a battle of state powers at High Point Christian.

Now this post from Henry Molski with the News and Record(Greensboro)

Greensboro Day wins 59-55 over High Point Christian

HIGH POINT — Just three days after a crushing loss to Wesleyan, Greensboro Day battled past High Point Christian for an important 59-55 victory Monday night in PACIS 3-A boys basketball.

With 26 seconds remaining, junior Peter Agba hit a baseline jumper to give the Bengals a 57-55 lead.

With 20 points already to his name, High Point Christian’s Joey McLean had a chance to counter with four seconds left, but his shot hit hard off the back iron and fell safely into the hands of the Bengals’ Marquelle McIntyre.

McLean scored 20, which nearly was 23 before officials waived off his 3-pointer just after the buzzer that would have made the final score 59-58.

*****There you go and does anybody know what the ‘Official’ final score was??? GSO(Sports) wants to know and we are always just a bit curious and you to make sure you get everyone on the same page here….There has to be somebody that was at that game in an ‘Official’ capacity that can tells us….Thanks to all and this ought to get a few people shaking their heads…..*****

  1. HPCA hit a 3 at the buzzer which GDS argued strongly shouldn’t have counted. The referee signaled it as good. Don’t know why it would be argued, but some people are petty like that. Was a good game. HPCA makes some free throws they win. Simple as that. Missed way too many at crucial times. Both games they’ve played, HPCA has missed starters., missing 2 last night. They will be fine in the playoffs.

  2. As Henry and I talked with Freddy Johnson after the game, Coach Johnson said the ref waved off the 3 at the buzzer (which I didn’t see, so I can only take at his word). I double-checked with the HPCA scorekeeper, and he had the 3 counting. The home book is official, and the refs walked off with the home scorebook and scoreboard both saying 59-58. So, as far as I’m concerned it was 59-58.

  3. Good call by Michael Lindsay and he is correct…The home book is the official book and if they(HPCA) had 59-58….Hey that is your final…..

    Right???

  4. It was a very good game played by 2 teams who get after it defensively. It is a pleasure to see the game being played the right way. These coaches should be applauded for teaching the game of basketball. The kids should be applauded for playing with energy and class. I am looking forward to seeing them again in the playoffs.
