Changes In NCHSAA Wrestling, Basketball Approved (Weather Related)

CHAPEL HILL– The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association met via conference call on Tuesday and approved a couple of changes that may help member schools with scheduling events during the current inclement weather.

The NCHSAA wrestling regionals are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, weather permitting. If there are postponements, all regionals must make every effort to avoid Sunday competition, especially if Saturday is available and safe for travel.

However, as a last resort, regional competition may be held Sunday afternoon, February 16. Weigh-ins cannot occur any earlier than noon and wrestling cannot begin any earlier than 1:00 pm. Additionally, the NCHSAA must approve all revised schedules.

There is no waiver of the 5-match per day limitation for an individual wrestler.

Another change was made for next week in basketball. Schools may play four games next week, with Friday being considered the “non-school” play date under the NCHSAA scheduling policies. Saturday is not an option, but this will perhaps allow for playing a make-up game or two, as well as the conference tournament, if the conference so chooses.

Seeding will be conducted on Saturday, February 22, as originally scheduled. All qualifiers will be submitted by the conference president no later than 6:00 am on February 22.
