GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Tyler Hunt (Gibsonville, N.C./Eastern Guilford) won the NCAA Division III statistical title for highest punting average in the 2013 season. Hunt is Guilford’s first statistical champion since Hagen Miller ’13 who led the nation in receptions in 2007.

Hunt, a sophomore, led Division III with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and Guilford-record 43.1 yards per punt average in 41 attempts. A First Team All-ODAC honoree, he put 12 of his kicks inside the opponent’s 20-yard line and forced eight fair catches. Hunt’s leg helped Guilford rank 14th among NCAA Division III’s net punting leaders (36.07).

He booted a school-record 81-yard kick Sept. 14 at Methodist University, which was tied for the longest in NCAA Division III this past season. His 76-yard boot Nov. 16 versus Emory & Henry College ranked ninth in the nation. Hunt averaged over 50 yards per punt in three games last fall, including 52.7 yards per kick in the Quakers’ comeback win over Emory & Henry.

Guilford’s passing offense also had top ratings led by sophomore quarterback Matt Pawlowski (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford). The Quakers finished among the top-51 teams in completion percentage (51st, .613), passing efficiency (26th, 150.51), turnovers lost (10th, 11) and turnover margin (29th, 0.9). Pawlowski threw just three interceptions which helped Guilford rank third in the nation for fewest interceptions. He finished among the nation’s top-50 quarterbacks in passing efficiency (26th,50.2), passing touchdowns (24th, 24) and passing yards per game (49th, 247.3).

The Quakers’ Josh Schow and Satiir Stevenson also finished prominently among the national leaders. Schow finished 54th nationally in rushing yards per game (102.3). Stevenson finished 59th in interceptions per game (0.4), which topped the conference.

Hunt, Pawlowski, Schow and Stevenson helped coach Chris Rusiewicz’s Quakers post the program’s first winning record (6-4) since 2007. Guilford finished second in the ODAC with a school-record 5-2 mark. The Quakers could return as many as 18 starters in 2014.
