Elon’s Oram, Johansen Sets Indoor Track and Field School-Record in One-Mile at UCS Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Elon women’s track and field distance members Allyson Oram and Kimberly Johansen became the program’s top two performers in the one-mile run after competing in the event at the UCS Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the JDL Fast Track Indoor Facility.

A small group of the Elon distance team competed at the event this weekend with all running in the mile race.

“We brought a small group of distance girls to the UCS Invitational today to run the mile,” said Elon head cross country and assistant track and field coach Christine Engel. “All five girls that ran set either a new personal or season-best in the event.”

Oram clocked in a time of 4:55.95, breaking the seven-year indoor school-record of Alana Black’s by nearly five seconds. The senior from Malborough, Mass., now holds the indoor program records in the one-mile, 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters. Oram finished eighth overall in the race.

“Certainly Ally’s school record was impressive,” said Engel. “It was her first time under the five-minute barrier.”

Johansen became the second-fastest performer in Elon indoor history with a time of 4:58.41, her first-ever one mile run. The Chelmsford, England, native was 10th overall in the race.

“For Kim to go a sub-five minute time in her first-ever mile race was a big highlight for her as well,” Engel added.

Tereza Novotna was the next runner to cross the finish line with a time of 5:03.62, 15th overall. Elyse Bierut became the fourth-fastest performer in school history in the indoor mile with her time of 5:07.50 while Kaitlin Snapp rounded out the times with a 5:09.49.

Majority of the track and field program will compete again on Monday, Feb. 17, at the Liberty Quad in Lynchburg, Va. The meet was rescheduled from Friday to Monday due to heavy snowfall in the region.
