Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Pride Drop Road USA South Contest to NC Wesleyan 81-66

ROCKY MOUNT, NC—The Greensboro College men’s basketball team dropped their conference match up against North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon by a 81-66 score.

The Pride scored the first basket of the game when Devan Gregory hit from long range, putting the Pride up 3-0 just seconds into the opening period. After that, the Bishops would pull out by no more than five until they pulled out to a 26-17 lead with 7:49 showing on the first half clock. Once Greensboro went down by the nine point margin, they were able respond back using a 11-2 run over four minutes to tie the game at 28-28. Jacob Thomas got the run started before Devan Gregory capped off the run with a layup of his own tying the game. After Greensboro tied the game, the Bishops and Pride traded baskets until Wesleyan was able to pull out to the 42-33 halftime lead.

After the halftime break, the Bishops were able to pick right up where they left off going into the break pulling out to a 48-33 lead just three minutes into the new segment. Greensboro tried to get back into the game pulling to within nine after a 6-2 run making the score 52-43 with 11:46 left to play. During that stretch, Damian Dixon scored four of his 11 second half points. Once Greensboro brought the deficit back down to single digits, they were able to pull within eight but could not get any closer falling 81-66.

Greensboro had three players score in double digits, with Devan Gregory scoring a team high 21 points to go along with his four rebounds. Damian Dixon added 14 points on the afternoon, while Jermaine Bates chipped in 12. Will Griffin led the way for Greensboro on the boards with six on the day.

With the loss, the Pride fall to 9-13 overall and 5-7 in USA South play. The Pride will return to action on Monday afternoon, when the Panthers of Ferrum come to town to make up the game that was postponed on Wednesday night. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 pm, and before the game there will be a senior day recognition ceremony.
