HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s track & field team took part in the JDL UCS Invitational on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Panthers posted several season-best times in both the track and field events Saturday. Sophomore Will Narramore had a career-best and team season-best distance of 13.90 meters (45-7.25) in the triple jump.
Saturday’s meet, which was originally scheduled to be a two-day event, featured a highly competitive field at the JDL Fast Track. HPU fared well in the competition with multiple top ten finishes to go along with the season-best marks on the day.
Narramore bested his previous career-best of 13.60 meters (44-7.50) in the triple jump with a distance of 13.90 meters (45-7.25) on Saturday. Narromore’s mark placed him fourth among all competitors, which was the top finish for HPU in the field events. Narramore also posted a career-best in the long jump with a distance of 6.87 meters (22-5.75). That topped his performance at the Hilton Garden Invite on Jan. 31 when he had a mark of 6.58 meters (21-7.25).
Sophomore Austin Miller participated in the seeded pole vault competition, placing seventh with a clearance of 4.75 meters (15-7).
On the track, HPU’s top finisher was Dennis Crawford, who came in with a fourth place showing in the 60-meter hurdles. Crawford had a time of 8.27, which is 0.03 seconds off his HPU record time in the event.
Also on track, sophomore Paul O’Donoghue came in seventh in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:54.10. SeniorEvan Emery came in 10th in the 60-meter dash in 7.00 and Jeff LaCoste finished 10th in the 3000-meter race by crossing in 8:28.87.
The Panthers will compete again next Saturday at the Dennis Craddock Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. It will be the team’s last event prior to the Big South Championship on Feb. 28-March 1. In Blackburg, Va.
