HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s track & field team competed at the JDL UCS Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Saturday. Graduate student Lynee Pina broke the school record in the weight throw with a toss of 15.41 meters (50-6.75).

Saturday’s meet, which was condensed from a two-day event to a one-day competition, featured a very competitive field in every event. The Panthers had a strong showing in the meet including Pina’s record-breaking performance.

Pina’s throw of 15.41 meters (50-6.75) broke the record mark, which she set earlier this month at the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational. Pina had a toss of 15.22 meters (49-11.25) at that meet before breaking the mark today.

The Panthers also did well in the seeded pole vault competition with sophomores Alyssa Palenchar and Jill Marois’ placing eighth and ninth, respectively, after both clearing 3.45 meters (11-3.75).

On the track for HPU, sophomore Katie Farina ran a team-season best 5:08.43 in the mile to finish 21st. Sophomore Emily de Lena competed in both the 60-meter dash and 400-meter race, finishing in 8.08 in the 60-meter and 1:00.42 in the 400-meter. Freshman Cozette Collin and sophomore Lilla Lorand came in 18th and 21st, respectively. Collin finished the race in 2:21.22 with Lorand following in 2:22.23.

The Panthers will compete again next Saturday at the Dennis Craddock Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. It will be the team’s last event prior to the Big South Championship on Feb. 28-March 1. In Blackburg, Va.
