HPU Men’s Golf 17th After Two Rounds At Wexford Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team is in 17th place after two rounds at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion in Hilton Head, S.C. Sophomore McKay Tye was HPU’s top scorer with a two-round total of 158.

“Unfortunately with the weather keeping us off the course thing spring we showed a bit of rust today,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “I am really glad the team didn’t get discouraged after the first round and showed a lot of improvement in the second round. We have areas we need to improve and we will in tomorrow’s final round.”

The Panthers carded a team score of 637 (324-313) showing great improvement from the first round by dropping 11 strokes in round two. Tye finished tied for 59th with a 158 (78-80). Freshman Jack Sides shaved 11 strokes off his first round 85 to card a 74 in the second round. He finished tied for 64th in the field with a 159.

Sophomore Jay Card is also tied for 64th with a 159. He shot a 79-80 in his collegiate debut. Senior LJ Georgetti was two strokes behind Sides and Card with a 161 (82-79). Sophomore Tommy Dillon finished the day with a 170 (85-85).

USC-Aiken leads the team standings with a 593 (297-296). Presbyterian College’s Davis Parker is the individual leader with a one-under 143 (71-72).

The final round tees off on Tuesday morning.
