Five minute overtime period will be played at JCSU

Hampton, VA – The overtime period of the February 19th men’s basketball game between Johnson C. Smith University and Winston-Salem State University will be played TODAY/Friday, February 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. in Brayboy Gymnasium on the campus of JCSU.

The contest came to a halt with the score tied 76-76 and headed to an overtime period.

Last evening’s game was interrupted due to a light fixture that was broken during the final seconds of regulation play. Officials and school representatives on the scene determined that overtime play could not continue at the time due to safety precautions.

The 2014 & 2015 NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL RULE 5, Section 4, reads:

· Section 4. Interrupted Game
When a game is interrupted because of events beyond the control of the responsible administrative authorities, it shall be continued from the point of interruption unless the teams agree otherwise or there are applicable conference, league or association rules.

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association® (CIAA) held meetings with school officials, coaches and other representatives who have determined that the game will be completed in the same location at 2 p.m., Friday, February 21. Admission to the game will be free.

CIAA regular season basketball play concludes on Saturday, February 22, 2014. The CIAA Tournament begins Tuesday in Charlotte. For more information, go to THECIAA.com.
