College Indoor Track and Field Results—Guilford Men and Women Pick up Event Wins at Appalachian State Pre-Conference Open

BOONE, N.C.—Guilford College’s Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field teams collected event victories at the Appalachian State Pre-Conference Indoor Open at the Holmes Convocation Center Saturday Afternoon.

The men collected three wins in non-Division I races. Joe Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) won the non-Division I 55 meter dash with a time of 6.54 seconds after qualifying with a time of 6.61 seconds. Mitchell picked up his second event win with a victory in the non-Division I 200 meter dash. His mark of 23.25 seconds also broke his season-best mark by .19 seconds.

Clarence Turpin won the non-Division I 400 meter dash with a season-best mark of 53.35 seconds, 1.13 seconds better than his previous best. Jonathan Sumner also ran a season-best, 53.83 seconds, finishing second just behind Turpin.

Andris Goncarovs placed second in the non-Division I 3,000 meter run with a season-best 8:53.13, 21.06 seconds better than his previous season-best.

The Quaker men finished the meet in sixth place as a team with 74 points, third best amongst non-Division I schools.

The women picked up three event wins, led by Ava Nadel’s mark of 5:41.70 in the non-Division I mile run, a team-best in the event this season. Nadel won the race by 22.85 seconds. Pasangi Perera (6:15.02) and Naomi Madaras (6:15.37) finished third and fourth in the race.

Tess Stryk won the non-Division I 400 meter dash with a time of 1:08.68, .89 seconds better than her previous team-best on the season.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) claimed victory in the non-Division I 800 meter dash with a time of 2:35.39, a season and team-best by 6.53 seconds. Emily Cash took fourth in the event with a time of 2:43.74, the second-best mark for the Quakers this season.

The Quaker women finished in sixth place as a team with 74 points, third-best amongst non-Division I teams.

The Quakers return to home to prepare for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships, which take place Sunday, March 2nd at the Boo Williams Sportsplex at Hampton University in Hampton, Va.
