College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 60, Washington and Lee 48

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Morgan King and Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) combined for 29 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks in Guilford College’s 60-48 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball victory over Washington and Lee University Saturday. The pair, along with classmate Kayla Adams (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth), was honored before the game on the occasion of the seniors’ final home regular-season appearance.

King and Oglesby teamed up in the paint for most of their first-half production, scoring 11 and nine points, respectively. The teams traded baskets for the first 14 minutes of play before the Generals’ Katie Wilde scored her team’s final two points of the half with 6:24 left. Guilford (19-6, 11-5 ODAC) closed the period on a 15-0 run and opened a 41-22 halftime advantage. Eight different Quakers contributed to the run.

Washington and Lee (6-18, 4-12 ODAC) closed to within 13 points with 10:51 to play, but the Quakers answered and opened a 54-33 edge just over two minutes later. Guilford did not score in the game’s final 5:07, but Washington and Lee managed just seven points in the same span.

King led the Quakers with 15 points and added six rebounds. Oglesby finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. The pair helped Guilford enjoy a commanding 24-4 interior scoring edge. Adams contributed four points to the victory. Junior Logan Hardin (Climax, N.C./Providence Grove) had seven points off the bench. Guilford shot 45.8% for the game and converted 12 Washington and Lee turnovers into 13 points.

Samantha Sharman paced three Generals in double-figure scoring with 12 points off the bench. Paige Corvino added 11 points and Wesleigh Vick contributed 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Guilford’s win secured the fourth seed and a first-round bye in next week’s ODAC Tournament. The two-time defending tournament champion Quakers will play the winner of #5 Virginia Wesleyan College vs. #12 Hollins University Thursday (2/27) at 3:00 p.m. in the Salem (Va.) Civic Center.
