College Softball Finals—Guilford 6–3, Ferrum 5–0

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Casey Snead’s one-out RBI single in the extra innings of game one and Rebekah Langston’s three-hit shutout propelled the Quakers to a doubleheader sweep of Ferrum College Sunday Afternoon. Guilford won game one, 6-5, in eight innings and took the nightcap 3-0.

Miyana Ross put the Panthers on the board in the top of second inning with a RBI-single to center field. Ashley Ammann increased the lead, 2-0, with a sacrifice fly.

The Quakers answered in the bottom of the third when Brooks Bray (Thomasville, N.C/Ledford) belted a home run to right center field to cut the Panther lead in half.

The Panthers countered in the top of the fourth when Emily Nelson hit a two-RBI double into left center field to increase the lead, 4-1.

Extra base hits from the Quakers in the bottom of the fifth inning erased the Panther lead as Taylor Boyd hit a RBI-double into left center field. Marty Wilcox followed with a two-run home run into right center field, tying the game, 4-4.

Chloe Bryzcki gave the Panthers a late lead, 5-4, in the top of the seventh inning with a RBI-single before being tagged out at second base.

Wilcox kept the Quakers alive in the bottom of the seventh with a RBI-single for her third RBI of the game, tying the game, 5-5, heading into extra innings.

Snead (1-0), who relieved game one starter Maggie Shaffer after four and two thirds innings of work, helped her own cause with a one-out single in the extra inning to claim the win. Snead threw three and a third innings for her first win of the season.

The Quakers carried momentum into game two where the Quakers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a pair of RBI-singles from Steffi Sides and Cynthia Hayes (Seagrove, N.C./Southwestern Randolph). Laura Hall added a RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth inning to add insurance to the Quaker lead, 3-0.

Langston (2-0) threw a complete-game shutout, the first of her collegiate career, striking out six and surrendering just three hits. Langston also held back two Panther bases-loaded rallies in game two as the Panthers stranded eight runners on base.

The Quakers (7-1) return to action Wednesday when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face William Peace University at 2 p.m.
