Elon’s Ramirez Named A-Sun Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced today, Feb. 24, that Elon women’s lacrosse goalie Rachel Ramirez had captured A-Sun Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ramirez earns Elon’s first-ever A-Sun weekly award after collecting 29 saves between the pipes in two games over the weekend for a 49.2 save percentage. The freshman added 10 ground balls and tallied three caused turnovers in those games at Liberty and Virginia Tech. At Liberty, she recorded 13 saves and four ground balls, while only allowing four goals off 22 shots in the second period. The Lindenhurst, N.Y., native also registered 11 saves in the second half against the Hokies.

Elon will play its first home game on Saturday, March 1, when it hosts Saint Francis at 1 p.m. in Rhodes Stadium.
