GAME NOTES:
–Northwest Guilford and Ben L. Smith battled in a hot shooting game that ended with an Eagles’ victory by a slim 83-79 count. Northwest came out on fire in the 1st victory by a slim 83-79 count. Northwest came out on fire in the 1st quarter as they sprinted to a 16-8 lead halfway through the frame. Smith then fought back in the 2nd quarter by exploding for 31 points to take a 44-36 advantage at the half. The Vikings tied the game by the end of the 3rd but could not overcome some costly mistakes down the stretch where Smith countered with big plays of their own.
–The Vikings’ balanced attack was led by Nick Powell and Kevin Henry who scored 18 points each. Colson Everett and Jaylen Gore score 15 and 10 points apiece.
–R. Pratt and JJ Watson led the Eagles with 27 and 25 points respectively. Smith will move on to the 2nd round of the state playoffs versus the winner of the E. Meck/Independence game.
— This ends Northwest’s season with an overall record of 22-5 and 7-3 in the conference for a 2nd place finish in the Piedmont Triad 4A. The Vikings had a 3rd place finish in the TIMCO Invitational Tournament which was the best finish in school’s history. Northwest also won the Conference Tournament for the only the 2nd time in 15+ years.
–Northwest would like to say a fond farewell to a group of Seniors that provided tremendous leadership that was instrumental in the team’s success. These Seniors include: David Everest, Nick Powell, Tim Kilpatrick, Kris Keefer, Colson Everett, Nick Yocum, and Hampton Billips. These fine, young gentlemen will be sorely missed as their high school basketball careers come to an end.
