Greensboro College Pride Baseball Drops Close Game To Hornets

GREENSBORO, NC—The Greensboro College baseball team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, playing their fourth game in the past three days. The Pride welcomed the Hornets of Lynchburg to Leonard Park, the Hornets walked away with a 6-4 victory

The Hornets got on the board first in the top of the second inning, with a two out RBI single plating the first run of the game and the early 1-0 lead. Lynchburg added another run in the top half of the third inning to push out to a 2-0 lead.

After the Pride was able to retire the top half of the third inning, Jon Krecicki cashed in with a two out bases loaded single scoring Jordan Powell and Cody York tying the game at 2-2. During the next at bat, Blake Throneberg gave Greensboro their first lead at 4-2 with another two out RBI single.

Once Greensboro pulled out to the 4-3 lead, Lynchburg responded in the top of the fourth inning with one run bring the score to 4-3 going into the home half of the inning. The Pride got the leadoff batter in the inning but was not able to push a run across leaving the score at 4-3 heading into the fifth inning.

In the fifth inning, the Hornets retook the lead with two runs in the inning to make it 5-4. Lynchburg added one run in the top of the eighth, holding off Greensboro for the 6-4 win.

Drew Baranosky took his first loss of the season. Cody York, Blake Throneberg, Jon Krecicki accounted for six of the Pride’s seven hits in the game.

With the loss, the Pride drops to 1-5 on the season. Greensboro will return to action against USA South opponent Piedmont on the road. The first game is slated to be played on Friday afternoon.
