Soccer In The Air: Gate City FC Hosts Open Tryouts

The newest professional sports team in the Triad, Gate City FC, hosted its first every open tryout over the weekend. The turnout was phenomenal as was the level of play throughout the sessions. There were over 70 players that attended the tryouts, which were held at Gibson Park in High Point.

Amongst those 70 players, there were players of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Former soccer standout, M.C. McCoy was among the players in attendance. McCoy, now 64 years old, held his own against the youthful exuberance of the remaining player pool.

The level of play was very high throughout the weekend which will give the Gate City staff an excellent selection of players to bring back for upcoming training, which is set to begin in early March.

In addition to the large number of players in attendance, there was a great show of support from the local community as well. There were several spectators that came to enjoy the high level of soccer throughout the weekend. This is the kind of stellar support the Gate City staff would like to see throughout the upcoming season.
