Greensboro College Pride Men’s Lacrosse Earns First Win of 2014 Season

GREENSBORO, NC— The Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team picked up their first win of the 2014 season by defeating the Monarchs of Methodist University by a 20-8 score.

The Pride got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net just 29 seconds into the opening quarter placing Greensboro on top 1-0. Ryan Kissner was credited with his first of three goals on the day when he placed the ball past the Monarchs keeper off a feed from Denis Radcliffe. However the young Monarchs answered right back tying the game at 1-1. The score would remain the same for the next two minutes of the quarter until Kissner and Alexander Vander Hof found the net putting the Pride up two at 3-1. Methodist then cut the lead to 3-2 before the Pride railed off four unanswered goals pulling out to a 7-2 lead. With 1:19 left to go in the opening period, the Monarchs got back to within four goals before Joe Stump tallied his lone goal of the day putting Greensboro up 8-3 going into the second frame.

In the second quarter, it was all Greensboro finding the net five times to take a commanding 10 goal lead into the intermission up 13-3. In the period, Greensboro was able to capitalize on both of their man up opportunities as Vander Hof and Radcliffe found the back of the goal with the advantage.

Greensboro then scored the first two goals of the new half, going up 15-3 before the Monarchs were able to tally again making the score 15-4. The Pride then once again responded back with goals from Charles Stringfellow and Brodie Ceperich making the score 17-4, before going into the final quarter of play up 17-5.

During the final quarter of play, both teams were able to beat their respective keepers three times each finishing the game up at 20-8 in favor of the Pride.

Greensboro College held a 39-33 advantage in shots on the day, with Michael Bates putting off four shots on the day to go along with six shots by Ceperich. The Pride also held a 56-37 advantage on ground balls with faceoff man Jaegar Carlyle picking up a team high seven off the ground.

The Pride used three goal keepers on the day with all three of them accounting with at least a save each. Jesse Duczminsky (1-1) picked up the win in the goal for Greensboro making six saves, while Matt Dittemore led the way for the green and white with eight stops.

With the win, Greensboro moves to 1-3 on the season and will look to build on the momentum they established as they welcome Farmingdale State to Pride Field next Saturday. The first faceoff is set for 1:00 pm following the women’s lacrosse game.
