Greensboro College Pride Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Randolph-Macon 18-9

ASHLAND, VA—The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team suffered their first setback of the young season on Wednesday afternoon falling to Randolph Macon 18-9.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board first just 2:30 into the opening period, but the Pride was able to even the score at 1-1 with a goal by Alexa Besch. After the Besch goal, Randolph Macon tallied two straight times pulling out to a 3-1 lead before Besch struck again bringing the Pride to within one at 3-2. The Yellow Jackets then pulled out to a 5-3 lead, but Kirstin Norris scored two straight goals for the Pride tying the game at 5-5 with 13:35 remaining in the opening period. After that, Macon was able to score four unanswered points taking a 9-5 lead into the intermission period.

After the break, the Yellow Jackets struck first but Nadya Fedun found the back of the net twice bringing the Pride to within three at 10-7. Following the Fedun goals, Macon was able to connect on six straight goals to put Greensboro in a 16-6 hole. Just two minutes after the last Yellow Jacket goal, Ashlynn Parks was able to put one by the Macon keeper to pull within eight at 16-8. Down the stretch of the final period, Macon added two more goals before Amira Khatib connected off a feed from Fedun bringing the game to the 18-9 score.

The Pride was outshot on the day 31-19, with Fedun firing off seven of them. Fedun had three goals on the day, while Norris and Besch added two a piece.

Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss in the goal for Greensboro despite making nine saves on the day.

The Pride women’s lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Agnes Scott to open USA South play. The first draw of the game is set for 1:00 pm.
