SALEM, Va. – Guilford College’s Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) earned First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball recognition Wednesday at the league’s annual awards banquet at the Salem Civic Center. Teammate Morgan King (Teachey, N.C./New Hanover) won Second Team All-ODAC honors.
Oglesby, a senior forward, is Guilford’s third women’s basketball player to win First Team All-ODAC honors three times, joining Brenda Davis ’94 and Laura Haynes ’98. She leads the Quakers in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots (49). Oglesby tops ODAC leaders in blocks per game (2.0). Her 13.0 points per game stands 11th in the league and her 9.4 boards per outing is third. She has scored 10 or more points in 19 of 24 games this season and tallied nine double-doubles. Oglesby scored a season-high 21 points versus Bridgewater College Feb. 1 and added nine rebounds, four blocks, and a steal.
In her third straight all-star season, Oglesby has moved even higher among Guilford’s career leaders. She holds various rankings in school history, including third in rebounds (892), fifth in points (1,364) and field goals (522), and seventh in free throws (320). Her school-record 225 career blocked shots mark the 17th-highest total among active NCAA basketball players (all divisions).
King stands second on the team with 11.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. The senior forward ranks fifth among ODAC leaders in blocks, seventh in rebounds, and 20th in scoring. Her field-goal percentage (.525) leads the Quakers and stands fourth in the league. King has scored 10 or more points 14 times this season and has five double-doubles. She tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds against cross-town rival Greensboro College Dec. 14. King garnered 10 or more rebounds seven times and earned the ODAC’s Player of the Week Award Dec. 16.
King, like Oglesby, moved up a number of statistical charts. The two-time Second Team All-ODAC honoree scored her 1,000th point in January and stands tied for 10th in points (1,119) among Guilford’s career leaders. She has the highest career free-throw percentage in school history (.789), stands second all-time at Guilford in blocks (134), fifth in rebounds (798), and sixth in field-goal percentage (.479).
Coach Stephanie Flamini’s Quakers (19-6, 11-5 ODAC) secured the fourth seed and a first-round bye for this week’s ODAC Tournament. Guilford will play fifth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center. The Quakers are two-time defending tournament champions.
