First Home Elon Women’s Lacrosse Game Set for Saturday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s lacrosse team will finally take the field at Rhodes Stadium for its first home game on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. against Saint Francis. Commemorative miniature lacrosse sticks will be handed out to the first 200 fans in attendance. Free popcorn will be available at the concessions stands for all fans and inflatables will be set up for kids in the Fun Zone. Admission is free to all home Elon women’s lacrosse games.

Looking Back
Elon returned from a two-game road trip last weekend, averaging eight goals a game. While the Phoenix suffered losses at Liberty and Virginia Tech, the team continues to improve and saw four goals on the weekend from Anna Vitton and Annie Shenk. Vitton leads the team in goals scored with five, followed by Shenk and Molly Garrigan, who netted four scores against the Hokies.

Ramirez Earns A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week
Goalie Rachel Ramirez was named the Atlantic Sun Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 24. The freshman collected 29 saves between the pipes in two games for the Phoenix for a 49.2 save percentage. At Liberty, she recorded 13 saves and four ground balls, while only allowing four goals off 22 shots in the second period. The Lindenhurst, N.Y., native also registered 11 saves in the second half at Virginia Tech.

Looking Ahead
Following Saturday’s game, Elon will play its first Atlantic Sun game on Wednesday, March 5, against Detroit in Rhodes Stadium at 7 p.m.
