Charlotte Catholic football coach Jim Oddo ready to retire/Keith Wilkes takes over at Olympic

After coaching for more than 40 years and over 500 games, Charlotte Catholic Cougars’ football coach Jim Oddo is ready to retire….His record ended up at 258-145-2…He won state titles in 1977, 2004 and 2005…Charlotte Catholic lost to the Dudley Panthers in the NCHSAA West Regional Final this season at Dudley and not too many Panther fans will ever forget that 4th and 2 play from the Dudley 7-yard line when the Dudley defense stopped Cougar back Elijah Hood to preserve the Panther victory and this sent them on the Title Game in Raleigh, where Dudley topped Scotland County to take home the 4-A Championship…

That play where Dudley stopped Hood, will become one of the most talked-about high school football plays in Greensboro prep football history and it will join the play where Tripp Welborne ran back that punt for a touchdown in 1985, in the Championship Game, as plays that made Greensboro high school football famous….To at least a certain degree, to certain collection of fans….

Keith Wilkes, who coached at WS Carver in Winston-Salem for several years and won NCHSAA State Titles with the Yellow Jackets in 1995 and 2003 has been named the new head football coach at Charlotte Olympic High School….Wilkes had an overall record of 139-62-1 while at Carver and he has been the head man at Charlotte Vance the past couple of seasons….Wilkes was (15-10) in his two seasons at Vance…
