Local College Girls Basketball Impact 20-win Seasons

Below are the local girls Division 1 college basketball players that are either starters or reserves whom are on teams that have won at least 20 or more games according to the NCAA latest update as the regular season concludes. Included is how they have fared in the most recent games. Winning 20 or more games can have a great impact when it comes to post season play either in the NCAA or WNIT.

1. North Carolina A&T University: MEAC CONFERENCE (23-4 and 12 and 2 conference) Christina Carter,(Thomasville High: VCU/A&T) A starter at the point that have the Aggies set to take on MEAC powerhouse Hampton to close out the season. The Aggies beat both Savannah State 73-61 and South Carolina State 52-42 and have now won 9 straight games. The Aggies have the 10th best rated defense in the nation giving up 55 ppg. Carter provided 8pts,6 assts and 4 pts and 6 assts respectively in the wins. Kenya Hailey and Mia Rudd did not score in the wins. However Hailey did have two rebounds against Savannah State.

2.Stony Brook University: AMERICAN EAST CONFERENCE (22-7 and 13-3 conference) Miranda Jenkins (Eastern Guilford) a starter whom recently hit four straight crucial free throws during crunch time to knock off Conference powerhouse Albany 66-56 on ESPN3 whom had won 38 straight conference games to finish second in the conference and broke the school record for wins that they set from the previous game. She finished with 9 points on 2 for 3 shooting including a three pointer and went 4 for 4 from the charity stripe. Part of a defensive effort that held conference leader Albany to a season low 56 points whom had been averaging 72 ppg. Stonybrook has won 7 straight games. American East Conference tournament begins on Friday in Albany,New York at 12pm against UMBC on ESPN3. SBU have one of the best defenses in the Nation giving up 57 ppg.

3.Florida Gulf Coast University: ATLANTIC CONFERENCE (22-7 and 16-1 conference) Whitney Knight(Winston Salem Reynolds) A starter that has help FGCU win 8 straight games. In a recent win against she scored 17 points on 5 for 8 shooting and grab 9 rebounds. FGCU the conference favored seem to have wrapped it up again as the Atlantic Sun tournament begins this week.

4.Winthrop University: BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE (21-8 and 15-5 conference) Ronata Rogers (Greensboro Day) A reserve whom is not an impact player yet. Has seen playing time sparingly which is usually the case with freshmen. The team is already led by season veterans that do a great job. Rogers is shooting 40% from the field and 37.5% from the charity stripe. High Point University knocked them off 74-71 and won the Big South tournament. She has not played in the last two games. Big South Tournament begins in Conway, South Carolina on Thursday.

5.High Point University: BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE (20-9 and 16-4 conference) Lindsay Puckett (Rockingham/Mars Hill) a reserve that came up big with 11 points off the bench on 4-8 shooting in a conference clincher against Winthrop 74-71. Jatzmin Johnson did not see any game time action.Conway,South Carolina this week. Highpoint has won 5 straight games. Coach Hendrix was named Big South Coach of the year.
