College Baseball Final: Methodist 11, Guilford 4

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Corey Wallace extended his streak of consecutive games with a home run to five as Guilford College fell to visiting Methodist University, 11-4, in a Wednesday afternoon non-conference contest.

Methodist started the game with a nine-run rally over the first three innings. Alex Rodriguez and Cody Molosky both drove in two runs a piece during the rally. The Monarchs posted four runs in the top of the second inning and five runs one inning later.

Nathan Fulbright responded to Methodist’s nine-run rally over the first three innings with an infield single to put the Quakers on the board in the bottom of the third inning. The Quakers continued their string of three unanswered runs over three straight innings in the bottom of the fourth when Michael Whited (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) hit his third home run of the season to cut at the Methodist lead, 9-2. Fulbright picked up his second RBI of the day in the bottom of the fifth inning on his second RBI-infield single of the afternoon.

Wallace responded to the two-run Monarch rally in the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run to extend his streak of consective games with a home run to five. The home run marks his sixth round-tripper in his last five games and his 22nd RBI in the last seven games. The senior also extends his consecutive-hit streak to eight games.

Lou Trosch (0-2) took the loss, throwing the first two innings. Nick Blackwood (Greensboro, N.C./Wesleyan) and Lex Estes threw an inning a piece, each striking out two batters in their respective outings while giving up only one hit. Avery Rogers threw the final inning, striking out one and allowing no base runners.

The Quakers (8-7, 2-0 ODAC) return to action Saturday, traveling to Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. to face the Hornets in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
