College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 12, Farmingdale State 5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chase Clausen and Dylan Haupt (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) both scored three times in Guilford College’s 12-5 lacrosse win over visiting Farmingdale State College Wednesday.

The win improves the Quakers’ record to 4-0 for the first time since 1992. Farmingdale State drops to 1-2.

Guilford led, 3-2, after one quarter before ripping off nine straight goals. The Quakers held a 12-2 lead early in the final quarter. Clausen scored all three of his goals and Haupt tallied twice during the decisive run. Guilford outshot the Rams, 23-9, over the middle two quarters.

Seven different Quakers scored, including long-stick midfielder Rufus Terry, who notched a career-high two scores. Adam Fiore had a goal and three assists for four points, matching Clausen for game-high honors. Chase Rogers added a goal and two assists for Guilford, which outshot the Rams, 38-23.

Guilford’s Connor Manning won eight-of-12 face-offs, which helped the Quakers retain possession for much of the game, and Matt Dunbar had a career- and game-high five caused turnovers. Dunbar picked up three ground balls and teammate Nick Huckins added five as Guilford had 27 of the game’s 49 ground balls.

Philip Schaefer scored two goals and Conor McNamara added a goal and an assist for Farmingdale State. Rookie Nicholas Fasano made 12 saves and had four ground balls in goal for the Rams.

The Quakers bid for their fifth straight win Saturday when they host Berry College at 1:00 p.m.
