College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Wittenberg 23, Guilford 17

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Logan Warye scored six goals and an assist in Wittenberg University’s 23-17 women’s lacrosse victory at Guilford College Sunday.

Alie Marousek added five scores and Francine Murzynski had five assists and six ground balls in the Tigers’ (1-0) season opener.
No team led by more than three goals for the first 50 minutes in the high-scoring affair. Wittenberg took advantage of two yellow cards assessed to Guilford and scored five straight times, which opened a 20-14 edge with 7:46 left in regulation. Wittenberg’s Megan Loofbourrow tallied twice and had an assist during the spurt.

Guilford’s Eleanora Keene countered with consecutive goals to draw the Quakers (2-2) to within 20-16 with 3:24 left, but her team drew no closer.

Seven different Tigers combined for 23 goals on 36 shots. Beth Hubbard scored four times and Loofbourrow finished with three scores and two assists. Olivia Lash added three goals and one assist. Becca Joseph contributed a goal and four assists. Katie Reuter made four first-half saves and Maddy Kelly had six second-half stops.

Keene’s six goals paced Guilford’s offense and E’leyna Garcia chipped in with four goals, one assist and nine draw controls. Lily Colley scored five points on three goals and two assists. Becca Colley also scored three times, and added one assist and seven draws. Sammi Milbourn made 10 saves in goal.

The Quakers visit Randolph-Macon College next Saturday (3/15) in Guilford’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.
