Jack Sides Leads HPU Men’s Golf At Mission Inn Spring Spectacular

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Freshman Jack Sides improved each round of the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular to lead the High Point University men’s golf team this weekend. Sides shot a 76 in the third round on Sunday.

“Our team is very young and inexperienced and this was a tough tournament with less than great conditions,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “There were winds up to 25 miles per hour and it made for some high scores. Jack Sides was truly the highlight this weekend, making some great shots. Now we have some time to devote to practice and preparing for the final stretch of the season.”

Sides finished the weekend with a 234 (80-78-76) and tied for 32nd at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Panthers finished 17th as a team with a total score of 978.

Virginia Tech took home the team title with Texas Tech finishing second and VCU coming in third. Virginia Tech’s Trevor Cone was the individual champion with a 211 (67-73-71).

Sophomore McKay Tye was HPU’s second finisher with a score of 247 (80-82-85) followed by sophomore Jay Card with a 250 (85-81-84). Dillon tied with Card with a 250 (80-82-88) and LJ Georgetti rounded out the scores with a 258 (90-83-85).

The Panthers have one more tournament to prepare for the Big South Championship. HPU will take part in the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on April 14 and 15.
