SALEM, Va.—Cynthia Hayes (Seagrove, N.C./Southwestern Randolph) extended her program-best hitting streak to 27 games as Guilford College dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game to Roanoke College, 7-1, Thursday afternoon. The game completed a doubleheader that began in Greensboro Wednesday, March 12th and was suspended after the completion of the first game due to rain.

Hayes extended her hitting streak with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning, preceding Rachel Howard’s RBI-double to left field. Hayes and Howard both finished the game 1-for-3. The effort kept Hayes’ hitting streak alive at 27 games, dating back to last season. Marty Wilcox was the lone Quaker with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 in the contest.

Roanoke scored the game’s first four runs with a three-run rally in the top of the first inning and one run in the top of the third inning. The Maroons added to their lead with three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on three hits and an error.

Maggie Shaffer (8-2) took the loss for the Quakers throwing the first two and one-third innings, surrendering four runs on eight hits. Casey Snead relieved Shaffer in the third inning, throwing the final four and two-third innings yielding three runs on four hits while fanning two batters.

The Quakers (17-3, 2-2 ODAC) continue today with a regularly scheduled doubleheader at Southern Virginia University beginning at 5:00 p.m.
