College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 19, Randolph 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Lily Colley and E’leyna Garcia both scored five goals and three assists in Guilford College’s 19-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over visiting Randolph College Wednesday night.

Colley set the Quakers’ career assists record with her second helper of the game, surpassing Mary Hutchins ’08 total of 86. In just her 41st career game, Colley also moved past Hutchins on the Quakers’ career scoring list and now has 233 points on 145 goals and 88 assists. She sits behind only Garcia on the all-time points chart. Garcia reached the 300 career points plateau Wednesday and now has a school-record 235 goals and 65 assists in 58 games. Colley’s 145 career goals stand third at Guilford, one behind Summer Frazier ’12 for second place.

With the Wildcats (4-4, 1-2 ODAC) using just 11 students-athletes (one shy of a full side) due to injury, Guilford gradually opened an 8-2 lead. Leah Hughes scored for the Wildcats 18:29 before halftime to make it 8-3, but the Quakers (4-2, 2-0 ODAC) answered with six straight tallies to take a 14-3 halftime lead. Garcia scored each of her eight points in the first half, while Colley collected six points with three goals and three assists.

Guilford’s Courtney Morsberger sandwiched a goal between two Colley tallies to start the second half, extending the Quakers’ run to 9-0 over the two halves. Colley’s fifth and final score capped the spurt and opened a 17-3 Guilford lead with 21:58 to play. Randolph scored four of the game’s last six goals in the final 16 minutes, two by Melanie Eisele.

Quakers’ rookie Demming Carlow matched her career high with three scores and Becca Colley finished with two goals and two assists. Guilford had eight different goal-scorers, including freshman Megan Gaeth, who scored her first college tally in the second half. The Quakers held a 40-10 edge in shots and won 20 of the game’s 28 draw controls.

Taylor Klevenz, who entered the game as the ODAC’s scoring leader, paced the WildCats with three goals and an assist. Eisele and Leah Hughes both scored twice, accounting for the rest of Randolph’s goals. Junior goaltender Samantha Fagone added to her league-leading saves total with 10 stops.

Guilford hosts Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday (3/22) in a 4:00 p.m. ODAC game.
