Men’s Lacrosse: HPU’s Dan Lomas Named To Tewaaraton Award Watch List

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Sophomore Dan Lomas of the High Point University men’s lacrosse team has been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, it was announced Thursday. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.

Lomas leads High Point with 20 goals this season. The attackman also has three assists, 22 ground balls and six caused turnovers on the season. Lomas is second in the Atlantic Sun in goals per game (2.50) and fourth in points per game (2.88). He is also tied for the league lead with two game-winning goals. The sophomore has recorded a point 18 straight games, dating back to last season. Over that stretch he has 53 points on 45 goals and eight assists.

Lomas is the only player from the Atlantic Sun named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.

Lomas was added to the Tweaaraton Award Watch List in the first of three rounds. A second round of additions will be announced on April 10. On April 24, the field will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions for players who earn a spot. Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced on May 8 and will be invited to the May 29 ceremony in Washington. The selection committees are comprised of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

High Point rides a six-game win streak in to Saturday’s Atlantic Sun battle with Mercer. The teams are tied atop the league standings with 2-0 ASun records. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
