The high school football scene is a large and lucrative scene down in South Carolina and we have lost football coaches to them before….David Gutshall(Burlington Cummings), Victor Floyd(Dudley), High Point Central coach from a few years back(Todd Staley)…..

from Scott Rogers at the Aiken Standard in Aiken, South Carolina…

NORTH AUGUSTA — North Augusta High School’s search for its next head football coach is down to three finalists.

According to sources close to the situation, the school interviewed more than 20 candidates for the opening. The list has been whittled down to current defensive coordinator and head softball coach Derrick Quinn, current Westside (Ga.) head coach Steve Hibbitts and Northern Guilford (N.C.) head coach Brian Thomas.

The wild card in the North Augusta search comes in the form of Thomas, who has only been the head coach at Northern Guilford for one season. Thomas followed head coach Johnny Roscoe, who won three straight NCHSAA Division 3AA championships.

  1. I’m from that area. The money will be there but the talent won’t be. Iit will be a fun job to have because SC treat high school football like the NCAA do the SEC.

  2. Andy,
Sources say that Coach Thomas was offered and has accepted the HC position at North Augusta High School.

  3. Here is what they were saying Monday in the North Augusta Star Newspaper:

North Augusta High School principal John Murphy confirmed Yellow Jackets defensive coordinator Derek Quinn, Westside head coach Steve Hibbitts and Northern Guilford (N.C.) head coach Robert Brian Thomas are the final three.

Murphy said there is no timetable to make the decision and he’s still going through the process. Though there is a school board meeting scheduled for tonight(Monday), he said the choice wouldn’t be announced then.

“It will not be (today/Monday),” Murphy said. “There’s no deadline.”

It oould have been today/Tuesday though…We will keep looking….
