HPU Women’s Track Finishes Competition At Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The High Point University women’s track & field team finished competition at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sophomore Christine Rickert was the Panthers’ top finisher, placing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 45.40 meters (148-11).

Rickert had her best throw on her fifth attempt. Her final attempt was also over 45 meters.

In the invitational section of the women’s pole vault, sophomore Alyssa Palenchar placed ninth with a height of 3.55 meters (11-7.75) and sophomore Jill Marois placed 11th with a height of 3.40 meters (11-1.75). In the B-section, Catelyn Griffin took second with height of 3.35 meters (10-11.75). Freshman Madison Depner cleared the same height and finished third.

Also in field events, freshman Amanda Gregory placed 11th in the long jump with a distance of 5.26 meters (17-3.25) on her final attempt and senior Lynee Pina placed 26th in the discus with a throw of 34.92 meters (114-7).

On the oval, freshman Cozette Collin was HPU’s top finisher, placing ninth in the 3,000-meter with a time of 10:33.83. Sophomore Erika Peoples placed 11th in 10:38.21. Sophomore Lilla Lorand placed 12th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.04 and sophomore Emily De Lena placed 32nd in the 200-meter.

HPU’s 4×100 relay team placed second in its heat and seventh overall with a time of 49.19 and HPU placed 15th in the 4×400 relay.

On Friday, senior Audrey Malloy paced the Panthers with a career-best 4:42.91 in the 1,500-meter. She placed 11th in the event. Sophomore Katie Farina placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:27.14 and junior Krista Willard won her heat of the 5000-meter in a career-best time of 18:18.85.

Lorand ran a collegiate-best 59.00 in the 400-meter and sophomore Erica Herrmann set an outdoor career-best mark of 1.60 meters (5-3) in the high jump.

Next weekend, High Point competes in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., and some athletes will also compete in the Raleigh Relays at NC State.
