Elon’s Mackey and Krauss Sign With Seattle Sounders Women Soccer Team

TUKWILA, Wash. – The Seattle Sounders Women have signed former Elon University women’s soccer standouts Olivia Mackey and Kimmie Krauss, the club announced Monday, March 24.

“I am so incredibly proud of Olivia and Kimmie,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal. “They have elevated our program to new heights over the last four years and are very deserving of this opportunity with the Sounders and coach Hubert Busby. I am looking forward to traveling to see them in action.”

A first-team All-Southern Conference selection in 2013, Mackey started 21 matches for the Phoenix this past fall. Mackey led Elon with eight assists on the year, while also totaling two goals. Mackey helped the Phoenix to a total of seven shutouts as well as one of the conference’s top defenders. Mackey helped Elon to its first Southern Conference Championship title match as well.

Krauss started all 22 matches for Elon in the fall, totaling seven assists on the year. A second-team All-Southern Conference honoree at defender, Krauss helped the maroon and gold to a total of seven shutouts in 2013 and an appearance in the Southern Conference Championship title match.

“We’ve been monitoring the progress of Olivia and Kimmie for awhile,” said Sounders head coach, Hubert Busby Jr. “We are pleased they are joining us this season in Seattle. Both come from a good program that produces quality players and people. They are technically sound players that will add depth to our squad.”

Mackey said, “Signing with the Sounders is very exciting. I’ve waited my entire soccer career for an opportunity like this, and I can’t wait to get out there and get started. I feel very lucky.”

Krauss added, “I have heard the Sounders are one of the best teams to play on partly because of their fans. I cannot wait to feel that adrenaline rush seeing the wonderful support Seattle has at the Starfire Stadium.”

Mackey and Krauss are expected to join the team in early May. The Sounders compete in the Western Conference of the W-League.
