High Point Central drops their first game of the year, after topping HP Andrews 13-6, back on Saturday….HP Central now (6-1) and NWG improves to (5-2) overall….

Central was down 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning and they came back to tie the game and then they moved ahead 3-2 after a flurry of Bison baserunners got on board….NWG comes right back at the Bison, as Cole Aker hits a leadoff home run to left field that hits the LF’s glove and then falls over the fence, for the solo home run that ties the game at 3-3…(The umpire went out to the fence to check on the ball. There was some question for awhile, did the ball go over, or had it got stuck in the fence…Umpire went all the way to check on the ball.)

Then after the home run, the NWG Vikings go into bunt formation and just about load up the bases, but they only need one run to win and they do take the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference battle with the Bison, 4-3 final Vikings on another bunt, this off of the bat of Colson Everett…

Not sure if it was a suicide squeeze from where I was standing way out beyond the left field fence, but I was reminding Colson’s mom about the game two years ago at NWG on a Friday night, when Everett laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Keaton Haack, to allow Northwest to win that game over the Bison 2-1….
(Very good baseball games with these two teams over the past 2-3 years.)

Colson Everett, one of many heroes for NWG tonight, along with Cole Aker and cast of at least seven more Vikings, in what was another one of the ‘Piedmont Triad 4-A Battles’, this time on the turf at Northwest Guilford High School….

A tip of the cap to the High Point Central Bison for coming back and then going ahead in this game and then another tip of the cap to the Vikings of Northwest Guilford, for not throwing in the towel after having the lead, losing the lead and then they fight back to tie the game up and win in the bottom of their last at-bat….

Game began at 6pm and not at 7pm, as was listed in the News and Record, but we did spot a listing for this game in the High Point Enterprise and they had the start time at 6pm….

The Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference could be anybody’s game this season with #1 Ragsdale, #2 Northwest Guilford, #3 HP Central and Southwest Guilford all poised to make a strong run for the conference crown….Right now Ragsdale, at (8-0) overall has a strong grip on the conference reins…..

You have at least five more teams, NWG, HP Central, SWG, Glenn and East Forsyth ready to step in if Ragsdale hits a bump in the basepaths/road…..

This just might be the most balanced and toughest baseball conference in the state, from top to bottom…..Mid-State 3-A is a very good one too overall, but there may be some tips near the bottom part of the balance beam there….

That’s all we have on this one for tonight, but again, it was a good one and for sure, a true fan’s ballgame….

Final from earlier tonight in Alamance County:
Western Alamance 10
Burlington Williams 0

from the Tuesday edition of the Burlington Times-News at www.thetimesnews.com:
Breydan Gorham went 2-for-3 and scored three runs as visiting Western Alamance blanked Williams 10-0 in six innings in a Mid-State 3-A Conference game.

Blake Deatherage (1-1) picked up the pitching victory, scattering five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Garrett Hodge had two hits and an RBI while Kevin Burns and Deatherage added a pair of hits apiece for the Warriors (5-2, 4-2).

Christian Mahaley had a double for the Bulldogs (2-6, 1-5).
