Powerade State Games High School Softball Coaches Announced

Registration is open and tryouts are scheduled to begin

DURHAM, North Carolina, – The Powerade State Games High School Softball Showcase will take place June 16-19 at UNC Charlotte. The High School Softball Showcase pits the best 20 underclassmen players from eight North Carolina regions against each other to battle it out in front of college scouts for the gold, silver and bronze medals. The Showcase also features a High School Senior East vs. West series.

The coaches have been selected for each regional team and are listed below with their high school in parentheses and the head coach listed first:
Region 1 – Gray Matthis (Ayden-Grifton), Brady Quinn (North Pitt)
Region 2 – Chip Adams (Ashley), Amber Passwaters (Topsail)
Region 3 – Robbie Wray (Middle Creek), Morgan Caddell (Green Hope)
Region 4 – Mark Whitman (Triton), Lauren Taylor (Harnett Central), Kristen Johnson (Cape Fear)
Region 5 – Rick Halo (Wheatmore), Danny Way (Eastern Alamance), Russell Dorrell (Northern Guilford)
Region 6 – Claire Lyerly (Weddington), Freddy Alvarez (Union Academy), Jason Phelix (Piedmont)

The Powerade State Games of North Carolina is gearing up for another year of exciting competition in the Charlotte region. The 28th annual Powerade State Games begin on May 31st and conclude on June 29th and covers the entirety of Mecklenburg County and beyond, with competitions taking place in Mooresville, Huntersville, Cornelius, Cramerton, Charlotte, Indian Trail, Pineville, Concord and Matthews. The 2014 Opening Ceremonies will be held June 20 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord. The Opening Ceremonies feature a commemorative gift for participating athletes, inflatables, games, music, a parade of athletes and a lighting of the cauldron to announce the official start to the 2014 Powerade State Games of North Carolina.
