GREENSBORO, NC — The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon as they welcomed the Rams of Farmingdale State to Pride Field. Greensboro College started out fast, but came up short falling by a 13-10 score.
The Pride did not waste any time getting on the board, as Kirstin Norris connected on a free position shot just 1:13 into the game putting Greensboro up 1-0. Farmingdale State was able to answered right back just 11 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1 before Greensboro was able to retake the lead 2-1 off a goal by Amira Khatib. Once again the Rams were able to tie the game before The Pride took their largest lead of the game at 4-2 off back to back goals by Nadya Fedun.
Once Greensboro took the two goal lead, the Rams then scored four unanswered goals taking the lead back at 6-4. The Pride was able to cut the deficit to one goal at 6-5 when Ashlynn Parks found the back of the net with 7:03 showing on the first half clock. Farmingdale then scored the final two goals of the half to take an 8-5 lead heading into the break.
After the intermission period, the Rams scored first but Alexa Besch scored a transition goal 40 seconds later keeping the three goal deficit at 9-6. The score remained the same over the next five minutes of play until Norris connected on her second goal of the day bringing Greensboro to within 9-7. However, Farmingdale State was able to extend back out to a four goal lead at 11-7 just minutes later.
The Pride was able to once again able to pull within two goals at 11-9 following goals by Parks and Norris with 14:42 left in the contest. Farmingdale then added two more goals before Alexa Besch tallied the game’s final goal with 5:36 remaining bringing the score to 13-10 in favor of the Rams.
Greensboro College was outshot by a narrow 23-22 margin on the day, as Kirstin Norris led the way with seven shots to go along with four shots by Nadya Fedun and Ashlynn Parks. The Pride was able to collect 32 groundballs on the day with Norris leading the way with 10. Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss in the net for the Pride despite stopping six shots on the day.
With the loss, the Pride’s overall record falls to 7-5 overall on the season. The Greensboro women’s lacrosse team will return to action on Friday afternoon when they travel up the mountain to face the Panthers of Ferrum College in USA South play.
