Southwest Guilford hosted Ragsdale on Wednesday night in a Piedmont Triad matchup. Kennan Lynn got the start for Ragsdale and Zach Saylor was on the hill for the Cowboys.

After the two teams went scoreless through three, Southwest got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Bullock coaxed a one out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Lynn got the second out on a strikeout, Chris Jackson got a base hit up the middle to drive in Bullock with the game’s first run.

Ragsdale came right back in the top of the fifth. A bloop double down the right field line off the bat of Corey Brandenburg started the inning for the Tigers. After Colin Lipke worked the count full, he got on board on a walk. Avery Hodges laid down a bunt to move the runners to second and third with one out. Kip Brandenburg got his brother home with a sacrifice fly to right field to tie up the game before Saylor got out of the inning with a ground out to short.

The score stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Tigers defense got Lynn in a jam. Liam Hales got on board on a throwing error by the second baseman. Bullock delivered a one out single to put runners on first and second before another error loaded them up. Jackson got the game winning RBI when he got a bases loaded walk to chase Lynn from the game. Reliever Kip Brandenburg was greeted with an RBI single from Alex Veroudan to make the score 3 – 1 before he got out of the inning without any further runs.

Saylor finished up his complete game win with a three up and three down seventh inning to hand Ragsdale their first loss of the season. Southwest improved to 6 – 2 and 1 – 1 in the Piedmont Triad while Ragsdale falls to 8 – 1 and 1 – 1 in the PTC.

Ragsdale is at home Thursday, 3/27 to face High Point Central at 5:00 PM. Southwest is scheduled to play East Forsyth at home on Friday, 3/28.

  1. There Was no 2 errors in the inning! There’s. no play when an infielder runs 15-20 ft in the hole.its a hit all the way. Saylorthe hitter was already past. learn proper scoring and give the batter credit. SW deserved to win!

  2. Big Win for the Cowboys on a very cold day. They battled and found a way to get the win!

First of all it wasn’t Saylor who was the hitter, it was Will Dalton.
Fielder made a good play to get to the ball, but booted it. Would have had a play if fielded cleanly. Runner was not past first. Scoreboard and scores ruled it an error. Judgement call. Has nothing to do with “learning proper scoring”
Southwest played a good game. Saylor was great on the mound, in control of the game. They definitely were the better team tonight.

  4. Maybe they cant hit…but according to the box score…they out hit SW. Which makes your comment funny to me. Obvoiously they still lost the game though.

  5. Ragsdale can hit, there is a reason why they started out 8-0. However, Coach Holmes always does a excellent job prepping the team for these key games. Nicely done Cowboys.
