GC Pride Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Ferrum 12-11

FERRUM,VA — The Greensboro College Pride women’s lacrosse team fell to Ferrum College on the road on Friday by a 12-11 score.

Ashlynn Parks scored two early goals putting the Pride up 2-0 just ten minutes into the game. After Greensboro pulled out to the two goal lead, both teams traded goals until Alexa Besch was able to connect on back to back possessions for the Pride making the score 5-2. However, the Panthers were able to pull within one goal at 5-4 after connecting on two unanswered goals.

In the final ten minutes of play, Nadya Fedun and Besch was able to find the back of the net but the Panthers score two more goals heading into the break with Greensboro on top 7-6.

After the intermission period, Ferrum was able to tie the game at 7-7 following a man up goal. Just four minutes after the Panthers tied the game, Kirstin Norris was able to put Greensboro back on top 8-7 with her second goal of the day. Ferrum was able to keep the game close trading goals with the Pride, but was able to retake the lead following two goals at 10-9 before Norris tied the game once again for Greensboro.

The game came down to the last ten minutes of play, as Ferrum was able to regain a two goal lead at 12-10 with just 2:58 remaining to play. Alexa Besch was able to bring the Pride to within 12-11 just fourty seconds later, but was not able to connect on their final possession of the day falling 12-11.

The Pride was outshot on the day by a narrow 23-22 margin with Alexa Besch firing five shots on the cage. Kirstin Norris and Ashlynn Parks also added four shots on the day. Greensboro College was able to collect 17 ground balls in the game as Kayla Gonzalez and Parks each picked up a team high four balls. Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss in the net for the Pride despite stopping seven of the 19 Panthers shots on goal.

With the loss, the Pride drops to 7-6 overall on the season and 4-3 in USA South play. The Pride women will return to action on Sunday afternoon as the host the Monarchs of Methodist University. The first draw is set for 12:00 PM. Prior to the game; the Pride will recognize the four seniors on this year’s team.
