College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 18, Sweet Briar 5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – E’leyna Garcia scored four goals and two assists and Lily Colley added three scores and four helpers in Guilford College’s 18-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over visiting Sweet Briar College Saturday.

Garcia scored all of her points in the first half as Guilford (6-3, 4-0 ODAC) netted the game’s first 11 goals and led, 16-1, at halftime. Colley added two goals and four assists in the first half, during which time Guilford outshot the Vixens (2-6, 0-4 ODAC), 18-5.

The Quakers applied strong defensive pressure throughout the game and forced the Vixens into 23 turnovers, 14 of which were caused. Colley and Summer Fowler both caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Eleanora Keene paced Guilford with five ground balls, and also caused two turnovers and picked up a game-best five draws. She also scored twice and added an assist.

When the Vixens got past the defense into shooting range, Quakers’ goalie Sammi Milbourn was often there to close the door. The rookie made eight saves on the Vixens’ 13 shots on goal.

Guilford had nine different goal scorers, including freshman Demming Carlow, who notched two goals and an assist. Becca Colley and Marina Bailey also scored twice.

Allison McLamb stood out for Sweet Briar with two goals and an assist for a team-best three points. She also paced the Vixens with four ground balls, three draws and a game-high four caused turnovers. Emily Williams and Ashton Reid both played a half in goal and combined for five saves.

Guilford plays at league-rival Roanoke College Wednesday (4/2) at 7:00 p.m.
