Badmaev Picks Up SoCon Women’s Golf Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Elon freshman Kelsey Badmaev was honored as the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for competition between March 26 and April 1 the league announced on Wednesday, April 2.

Badmaev tied for 12th out of 90 competitors at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate from Sunday to Tuesday, shooting an eight-over-par 224 over the course of the three-day event. The Phoenix finished seventh in the 16-team field.

Badmaev fired rounds of 75, 73 and 76 for the second-best three-round total of her young career and her best total of the spring. A native of Blythewood, S.C., Badmaev recorded 35 pars and six birdies at the tournament.

The honor is the first of Badmaev’s career and the first for a Phoenix women’s golfer since Martyna Mierzwa earned golfer of the week honors in March of 2011.

Elon will conclude its regular season at the UNCW Seahawk Classic in Wallace, N.C., this weekend before heading to Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the SoCon Women’s Golf Championship on April 13-15.
