College Baseball Final — Averett 12, Guilford 5

DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University used a balanced offensive effort to earn a 12-5 victory over Guilford College Wednesday afternoon.

Averett used a three-run rally in the second inning, a seven-run rally in the third frame, and two more runs in the fourth inning to bolster their offense. The Quakers scored their first two runs in the fourth inning while scoring one run each inning in the fifth, seventh, and ninth frames.

Rocco Wilcox went 3-for-5 with a RBI for the Quakers in the top of the seventh inning. Wilcox added a stolen base and brought home another run in the fifth inning thanks to a fielding error.

Gabe Mirabelli collected the second RBI of the afternoon for the Quakers in the top of the ninth inning with a single to center field, capping his 2-for-5 afternoon.

Corey Wallace went 2-for-5 with two doubles, extending his hitting streak to eight games.

Averett’s Jason Carter went 4-for-5 with two RBI off a double down the left field line to drive in the Cougars first runs.

Andrew Davies went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Davies drove in his first run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning and hitting a home run his next at-bat in the fourth frame.

John Todd threw three innings of scoreless relief for the Quakers, giving up five hits and fanning one batter. Lex Estes threw a perfect final inning, striking out one batter.

Averett’s Trent Watkins took the win, throwing six innings giving up three runs, all unearned, on four hits while striking out three batters.

The Quakers (11-17, 4-8 ODAC) return home Saturday, hosting Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at noon inside McBane Field.
