GC Pride Baseball Falls To William Peace 12-8

CARY, NC — The Greensboro College Pride baseball team was back in action for the second straight night when they traveled to Cary, North Carolina to take on the Pacers of William Peace University. This was the first ever meeting between the two school s in the sport of baseball. The Pride fell in the contest 12-8.

Greensboro College got on the board first in the contest when Brandon Soden plated Kyle Willard from third base putting the Pride up 1-0 early. The Pride was able to complete the shut down home half of the inning preserving the 1-0 after two complete innings of play. The score remained the same until the Pacers were able to tie the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning at 1-1.

The Pride was able to retake the lead in the top half of the sixth inning with two runs pulling out to a 3-1 lead. Greensboro got their first run of the inning after Cole Starke stole third base before coming in to score on a Brandon Soden single making the score 3-2. The Pride then added another run later in the inning when Andrew Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Cody York bringing the score to 3-1. However, William Peace was able take the lead 7-3 following six runs in the home half of the inning.

Greensboro College was able to get one run back in the top half of the seventh inning when Andrew Ray placed a 1-2 pitch threw the middle infield scoring James Feldmann from third base making the score 7-4. The Pacers then scored five runs in the next two inning taking a 12-4 lead.

The Pride was able to get back on the board in the top half of the ninth inning scoring four runs. Blake Throneburg hit an RBI single scoring Feldmann from third base making the score 12-5. Later in the inning Throneburg came around to score following a single by Kyle Willard bringing Greensboro to within 12-6. Soden then brought the Pride to within 12-7 with a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Kyle Willard to cross the plate. Greensboro was able to add one final run in the inning, but fell 12-8.

Greensboro College collected 11 hits on the day with James Feldman leading the way with two hits. Brandon Soden collected a team high two RBIs while going 1 of 4 at the plate. Will McGuire took the loss on the mound for the Pride.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 3-21 overall on the season. The Pride will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they open a USA South series with Maryville College. The first pitch of the double header is set for 1:00 pm.
