GC Pride Baseball Picks Up Win Against Emory & Henry

EMORY, VA — The Greensboro College Pride baseball team was back in action on Wednesday afternoon at Emory & Henry. The Pride was able to break their rough skid with a 10-7 victory.

The Wasps got on the board first in the bottom half of the opening inning scoring three runs pulling out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. However, The Pride was able to get two of the runs back in the visitors half of the second inning pulling to within 3-2. Freshman shortstop Andrew Hernandez connected for his first of two hits on the day plating Cody York and Andrew Ray.

In their following at bat, Greensboro College was able to take their first lead of the contest scoring four runs pulling out to a 6-3 lead. Blake Throneburg collected the first RBI of the inning before Andrew Toney singled to center field which plated James Feldmann from second base to wrap up the inning. Greensboro College added one more run in their following at bat when Throneburg plated Cole Starke with a two out double making the score 7-3.

Emory & Henry scored the games next four runs tying the game at 7-7 before Greensboro was able to pull back out in front with three runs in the top half of the ninth inning of play. Andrew Ray knocked in the first run of the inning just before Kyle Willard collected two RBI’s following a single to left center field. In the bottom half of the final inning, the Pride called on the arm of Kristopher Peeden who retired the side for his first save of the season.

Greensboro College was able to collect 12 hits on the day as nine different players recorded a hit in the contest. Andrew Hernandez and Blake Throneburg led the way for Greensboro each collecting two hits on the day. Andrew Ray, Kyle Willard, and Andrew Hernandez was each credited with two RBI’s throughout the game.

With the win, the Pride’s overall record improves to 3-20 overall on the season. The Pride will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to take on the Pacers of William Peace University. The first pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
