College Women’s Basketball News – Guilford’s Oglesby Lands All-State Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) earned Second Team All-State Women’s Basketball honors from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) Wednesday. A first-team all-state pick in 2012, Oglesby is the first Quakers’ women’s basketball player named to two all-state squads.

The all-star unit is comprised of women’s basketball student-athletes from North Carolina’s NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA institutions. Sports information professionals nominated student-athletes for the team, which was selected by NCCSIA members.

The all-state honor is the latest for Oglesby, who was named a Second Team All-South pick by D3hoops.com last month. In February the 6-1 senior forward became the Quakers’ third women’s basketball player named First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) three times, joining Brenda Davis ’94 and Laura Haynes ’98.

Oglesby led Guilford in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots (55). She paced the ODAC in blocks per game (2.0) and ranked third in rebounding (8.9 rpg). Her 12.9 points per game average placed 12th in the league and her .496 field-goal percentage was ninth. She scored 10 or more points in 21 of 27 games this year and tallied a team-high nine double-doubles. Oglesby scored a season-high 21 points versus Bridgewater College Feb. 1 and versus the University of Scranton Dec. 23. She matched her personal best with 17 rebounds at Lynchburg College Feb. 5.

Oglesby concluded her career ranked prominently among the school’s statistical leaders. She will graduate as the Quakers’ all-time leader in blocks (231) and holds school standards for rejections in a season (68, 2011-12) and game (7, vs. Randolph-Macon, 1/6/12). Oglesby appeared in a school-record 112 games with 100 starts and set a Guilford standard with 29 games played in 2012-13 and 2011-12. Her 907 career rebounds rank third in school history and her 1,400 points stand fifth. Oglesby joins Davis and Haynes as the only Quakers ranked among the top-five in school history in points, rebounds and blocks. She sits seventh among Division III’s active leaders and 17th among all NCAA divisions with 231 career blocks. Her 231 blocks stand fifth in ODAC history.

Oglesby helped coach Stephanie Flamini’s team to a 21-7 record and a second-place finish in this year’s ODAC Tournament. The Quakers went 82-31 in Oglesby’s four seasons and won ODAC Tournament titles in 2012 and 2013, which led to NCAA Division III playoff appearances in both seasons.
