Matt Horkey got the start for Ragsdale on Friday night against Zach Saylor for Southwest Guilford. Horkey retired the Cowboys in order over the first three innings facing the minimum of nine batters. Saylor gave up two hits with two outs in the first inning as Horkey and Cesar Trejo both singled, but he got out of the inning with a strikeout. Ragsdale threatened again in the third getting the first two batters on as Niko Orfanedes doubled and Colin Lipke got a walk. Saylor got a strikeout for the first out and after a wild pitch moved the runners up to second and third, he intentionally walked Trejo to load the bases. Once again he worked out of the jam, getting a pop up and the third out on an attempted steal of home when the runner was called out to continue the scoreless game

Southwest got on the board first in the fourth when Austen Zente led off with an infield single. Liam Hales was safe at first on a bad throw on a sacrifice bunt which allowed Zente to advance all the way to third. Andrew Bullock drove in the first run with a solid single into left field to give the Cowboys a 1 – 0 lead.

That lead held up until the bottom of the fifth when the Tigers finally got to Saylor. Orfanedes started things off with a leadoff double and Lipke got his second walk of the game. Horkey drove in Orfanedes with the Tigers first run with a single to right center and Trejo followed with a double to right to plate Lipke with the second run of the inning. One out later, Kip Brandenburg drove in Horkey and Trejo with a towering drive to the fence in center field for a double to make the score 4 – 1.

Given the lead, Horkey closed out the complete game effort getting double play ground balls in both the sixth and seventh as he picked up the win, moving the Tigers to 10 – 2 and 2 – 2 in the Piedmont Triad.

Next up for Ragsdale is a game at East Forsyth on Tuesday, April 8 @ 7:00 PM. Southwest Guilford will be at Northwest Guilford also on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
