College Track & Field Results – Guilford Wraps Up VertKlass Meeting

Men’s Track and Field
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Guilford College’s men’s 4×100 relay team set the school record Saturday at the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University.

The Quakers’ team of Joe Mitchell, C.J. Green, Jonathan Sumner and Clarence Turpin placed eighth among 12 upper-division teams in 44.15 seconds. Green ran the opening leg on the previous record-holding relay, which set the standard at the same meet in 2012 with a time of 44.39 seconds.

Green also turned in the teams’ top individual result with his eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.78 seconds) among 52 competitors. He was 25th overall and second on the team in the 100 with a time of 11.13 seconds. Teammate Joe Mitchell placed 19th in the 100 with a mark of 10.97 seconds and finished 11th in the 200 with a time of 23.07 seconds.

Other highlights from Saturday’s competition included Turpin’s 12th-place finish in the 400 with a time of 52.04 seconds. Emmanuel Williams had a long jump of 5.94 meters that placed 26th in the 36-man field.

Coach Danny Cash’s Quakers are back in action April 12 at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by N.C. A & T State University.

Women’s Track and Field
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s track and field team concluded competition at High Point University’s VertKlasse Meeting Saturday. The Quakers were one of just a few NCAA Division III teams at the meet, which featured many Division I and Division II squads.

Guilford’s Kaylea Trogdon ran a personal-best in the 200-meter dash with a time 29.46 seconds that ranks fourth in school history. She finished 53rd among the race’s 65 runners. Trogdon also had the Quakers’ top time in the 100 (14.03) and placed 41st among 48 contestants.

Guilford’s Jasmine O’Neill was 58th in the 200 in 30.40 seconds, but clocked the sixth-fastest 400 time in Quakers’ history with a mark of 1:07.93. She finished 33rd among 38 runners in the 400.

Laura Adair’s personal-best discus throw of 23.21 meters highlighted Guilford’s field competitors Saturday. She placed 26th among 30 throwers and had the fifth-best heave in school history.
