College Women’s Tennis Final – Salem 7, Guilford 2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Host Salem College claimed a 7-2 nonconference women’s tennis decision over visiting Guilford College (5-7) Saturday.

The Spirits (6-4) captured two of three doubles contests and five of six singles matches, including three three-set triumphs. Andrea Akers teamed with Ayla Pruitt for an 8-2 win at first doubles over the Quakers’ Allison Hewitt and Madison Giles. Akers won one of the Spirits’ three three-set matches with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 decision over Hewitt at first singles.

Pruitt claimed a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win at fourth singles over the Quakers’ Nora Prokosch. Ashley Koehler claimed a 6-2, 6-3 second-singles win over Madison Giles and teamed with Angela Reavis for an 8-3 second doubles win over Prokosch and Mara Stern.

Guilford’s Fernanda Gonzalez had a hand in both Quakers’ points. She downed Reavis in the third-singles contest, 6-0, 6-3, and teamed with Forest Melcher for an 8-2 win at third doubles over Salem’s Leia Pruitt and Samantha Story.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers resume Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Sunday (4/6) versus visiting Emory & Henry College at 2:00 p.m.
