GC Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Huntington 18-4 in Quarterfinal Matchup

GREENSBORO. NC – The Greensboro women’s lacrosse team upended Huntington College 18-4 on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinal matchup of the USA South tournament.

The Pride came out of the gate fast scoring the first 11 goals of the game and would not look back the rest of the way. During the stretch, Kirstin Norris scored the four goals, Alexa Besch netted three, Nadya Fedun had two, to go along with one from Ashlynn Parks and Amira Khatib. The Hawks got their first goal of the half with 40 seconds remaining to make the score 11-1 going into the break.

Huntington got the first goal of the new half, but Kayla Gonzalez responded right back with a goal off an assist by Parks making it 12-3. The Hawks scored the next goal, however The Pride ran off the next three on goals by Fedun, Norris and Gonzalez making it 15-3.

The Hawks got their last goal of the game on a free position shot to trail 15-4. Parks, Besch, and Khatib each chipped in a goal down the stretch with Greensboro coming away with the 18-4 victory.

Greensboro held the edge in shots at 33-17, to go along with 25 groundballs. The Pride defense forced 24 turnovers and was 15-22 on clear attempts.

Norris led the way on the day with game highs in shots with ten and goals with five. Besch and Gonzalez were close behind with six shots apiece. Fedun and Parks had two assists apiece. Kaleigh Hemstock got the win in goal making nine saves.

With the win, The Pride advance to the semifinals to take on #1 seed Piedmont College. The game is scheduled for Friday April 11 in Rocky Mount, NC. The start time is slated for 1:00 p.m. In the previous meeting, Greensboro suffered a 15-10 setback on the road.
