Elon Men’s Tennis Moves Up 5 Spots in ITA National Rankings

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team jumped five spots to No. 44 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings released today, April 8, while Cameron Silverman moved up one spot to No. 35 in the country.

The Phoenix went 3-0 last week in a mid-week home match against UNC Greensboro and two road matches against Furman and Wofford. In its final match of the weekend, Elon topped Wofford 5-2 to clinch at least a share of the Southern Conference regular season championship. Throughout the week, Silverman, Stefan Fortmann and Brian Kowalski went 3-0 in singles matches.

In his career, Silverman has won 58 dual singles matches at Elon, which stands six wins behind the program record set by Damon Gooch in 2009. Fortmann has now won eight straight matches since the beginning of March. The junior is also 8-0 in doubles matches since the start of March.

Elon goes for its second straight outright SoCon regular season title tomorrow, April 9, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center against Appalachian State. A win in the 3:30 p.m. match would give Elon its second perfect conference season in program history. The Phoenix went 9-0 in 2007 on its way to a NCAA Tournament berth.
