Ragsdale was at East Forsyth on Tuesday night and it only took two pitches for them to take an early lead. Niko Orfanedes led off by taking the first pitch up the middle for a single and he was followed by Colin Lipke who took the first pitch he saw over the fence in right center field for a two run home run.

Kennan Lynn got the start for Ragsdale and after getting through the first two innings, ran into trouble in the third and couldn’t make it out of the inning. He gave up a leadoff bunt single to start the third and then had control problems. A sacrifice fly, three walks and a wild pitch plated two runs and left runners on second and third with two outs. Connor Burrows came on in relief at that point and got out of the inning without further damage. Burrows went on to pitch another 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball and when Ragsdale scored four in the fifth, he was credited with the win.

Ragsdale got back to back singles from Matt Horkey and Cesar Trejo with one out in the fifth. Corey Brandenburg got hit by a pitch to load the bases and East Forsyth brought Tyler Scearce out of the bullpen. A walk to Avery Hodges on a full count brought in a run and Connor Burrows followed with a single to drive in another. Ben Fischer then got a bloop double to drive in two more and Ragsdale had a 6 – 2 lead.

Burrows worked into the seventh and when he gave up a single to Jacoby Dolesh and a walk to David Watts with one out, Matt Horkey came in to get the final two outs to end the game. With the win Ragsdale improves to 3 – 2 in the Piedmont Triad Conference while East Forsyth falls to 1 – 3.

Next up for Ragsdale is a game at Glenn on Friday, April 11 @ 7:00 PM while East Forsyth will be at Northwest on the same date.

  1. Horkey threw Friday night. Most pitchers will throw a short bullpen 3-4 days later in between starts. it varies but usually 40 pitches or so. Yankee mentions he only threw 5 pitches but he probably threw 20-30 warming up. People tend to forget all those. Horkey simply got his bullpen in. Not that unusual to use him last night. That said, Maness is going to ride that horse and I don’t blame him. I would expect to see Horkey again on Friday. They need Ambrose to get healthy. Helps that Burrows and Keenen have stepped up for the Tigers.
