Showalter Helps Lead GC MLAX Pride Men To 13-9 Victory Over Randolph

GREENSBORO, NC — Scott Showalter led the Pride to their third win in the last four contests, as the Pride defeated the Wildcats of Randolph College 13-9 on Wednesday afternoon. Showalter contributed six assists on 13 Greensboro goals.

Wyatt Clay got the first of the four goals in a 4-0 start by Greensboro right off the opening faceoff. Clay picked up a ground ball before going to the cage and putting Greensboro up 1-0 just ten seconds into the game. After the Clay goal Brodie Ceperich, Scott Showalter, and Alexander Vanderhoff found the net extending Greensboro out to a 4-0 lead. Once Greensboro pulled out to the 4-0 lead, the Wildcats were able to tally their only goal of the period cutting the Greensboro lead to 4-1. However, Vanderhoff scored the quarter’s final goal with 44 seconds on the clock to go up 5-1.

Randolph got on the board first in the second frame, but Ryan Kissner extended the Greensboro lead back out to four goals at 6-2 just 1:10 later. The Wildcats found the back of the net once more with 10:59 remaining in the first half of play, but Kissner and Denis Radcliffe responded back for Greensboro once again putting the Pride up 8-3. After the back to back goals for Greensboro, the Wildcats scored the final two goals of the frame heading into the intermission with Greensboro leading 8-5.

Neither team was able find the board in the first three minutes of the third quarter until jaegar Carlyle took a Showalter feed to extend the Pride lead to 9-5. But for the remainder of the third period, the two teams traded goals back and forth heading in the final period of play with Greensboro on top 12-8.

The Wildcats scored the first goal of the final period bringing the score to within three goals at 12-9. However it was Greensboro’s Ryan Kissner who tallied the game’s final goal giving Greensboro the 13-9 victory.

The Pride and the Wildcats were even in the shot category on the day with Randolph holding a narrow 43-42 advantage. Alexander Vanderhoff (3 Goals) led the way in shots for Greensboro with nine while Ryan Kissner (4 goals) was not too far behind with seven. Greensboro College tallied 57 groundballs on the day compared to 52 by the Wildcats. Scott Showalter led Greensboro with seven ground balls to go along with six ground balls by Tracy Armstrong. Matt Dittemore picked up the win in goal for Greensboro while stopping 11 Randolph shots.

With the victory over the Wildcats, the Pride’s overall record improves to 4-7 on the season. Greensboro College will wrap up their 2014 season on Saturday, April 12th when they travel to Ferrum, Virginia to take on the Panthers of Ferrum College. The first faceoff is set for 1:00 PM.
